Coin and FM Plus terms

These terms cover coins, unlocking episodes, rewards and the FM Plus subscription on Chapterly FM. They add to Chapterly's Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, which also apply. “We” and “us” means Chapterly Inc. If these terms and the Terms of Use disagree about coins or FM Plus, these terms win.

The short version: coins never expire, an episode's price never goes up once it's published, FM Plus renews until you cancel, and you can cancel in one tap.

You can listen to free episodes without an account. Coins, FM Plus, comments and rewards need a Chapterly account, so they stay safe on every device. You must be at least 13 to use Chapterly FM. Some stories are for adults, and comments and listening parties are for listeners 18 and over. If you're under 18, you need a parent or guardian's permission to buy coins or FM Plus.

Guest listening is tied to your browser. Sign in and it moves to your account.

Coins unlock episodes and some extras, like bonus scenes (15 coins each). They are a license to use Chapterly FM features, not money: they have no cash value, can't be sold, transferred or exchanged for cash, and aren't a deposit or a stored-value account.

• Coins never expire. This includes coins you buy and coins you're given (welcome gifts, nightly coins, rewards).
• Prices are shown in US dollars before you pay, and every pack says roughly how many episodes it unlocks. We may change pack prices for future purchases; that never changes coins you already have.
• Your first coin pack is doubled (2×, once per account). The starter pack (250 coins for $2.99) is offered once to new listeners and isn't doubled.
• Every coin in and out is listed on the Coins page, with the date and what it was for.

• An episode's price is set when it's published and never goes up. No episode of a series costs more than that series' ceiling, which we only ever lower.
• Seasons have a cap. However you unlock a season, the coins you spend on it never pass its cap, and reaching the cap unlocks the whole season, including episodes released later.
• Free listening. The first episodes of every series are free, plus 30 free minutes a day to spend on any series (more with FM Plus), and 15 more on a day you start a series you haven't heard before (once a day). We won't lower a series' free episodes after it starts.
• Unlocks are yours to keep for as long as the episode is on Chapterly FM, on any device you sign in to.
• Auto-unlock is off unless you turn it on, per series. When it's on, it pauses after three unlocks in a row without a tap and while a sleep timer is running.

Coin purchases are final once you've used them, except where the law says otherwise. We'll always put things right when something went wrong on our side:

• Charged but no coins, or charged twice? Email us and we'll credit the coins or refund the charge.
• Changed your mind? Ask within 14 days of buying a coin pack and we'll refund it if you haven't spent any of its coins.
• A series taken down: if we remove a series, the coins you spent unlocking its episodes in the 12 months before go back to your wallet.

When a purchase is refunded or charged back, its coins (and any bonus that came with it, like the doubled first top-up) come off your balance. If you'd already spent them, your balance can go below zero until your next top-up. Write to [email protected]; a person reads every message.

FM Plus renews automatically until you cancel. It costs $9.99 a month or $79.99 a year, plus any tax, charged to the payment method you choose at checkout. New listeners may get their first month for $4.99; after that month it renews at $9.99 a month. If you've never had FM Plus, the yearly plan starts with 7 days free: nothing is charged until the trial ends, we tell you 2 days before it does (by email, and on your phone if notifications are on), and cancelling before then means you're never charged. We show the price, the renewal and how to cancel before you subscribe, and every payment is listed in your coin history on You.

In the iPhone and Android apps you can also choose FM Plus by the week, at $4.99 a week. It is bought, renewed, managed and cancelled through the App Store or Google Play, which send their own renewal notices.

• Cancel any time, in one tap: FM Plus page → Manage or cancel. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep FM Plus until the end of the period you've paid for. We don't refund part of a period, except where the law requires it.
• Reminders: we email you 3 days before each monthly renewal, and 30 days before each yearly renewal.
• Price changes: we'll tell you at least 30 days before a new price applies to you, and you can cancel before it does.
• If a payment fails, we retry for a short while and FM Plus keeps working until the period you paid for ends.

What FM Plus includes today:

• 100 coins when you join, then 5 coins on each day you open Chapterly FM (not carried over from days you don't).
• 60 free minutes a day instead of 30.
• New episodes 24 hours before everyone else (still unlocked the usual way).
• Every bonus scene, free while you're a member.
• Friends with a Chapterly account in a listening party you host hear the party's episodes free.

Coins you got from FM Plus stay yours after you cancel. Free access that comes from being a member (bonus scenes, extra free minutes, party access) ends when your membership does. We may add, change or end perks; if we take one away, we'll tell you first and you can cancel.

• Welcome gift: 50 coins on your first night with an account, and a gift on each of your first 7 nights (160 coins in all). Once per person.
• Invites: when a friend you invite makes a new account and finishes episode 1, you both get coins. Rewards are paid once per friend, for up to 10 friends a month, and not for your own accounts.
• Call it: call a twist right and get coins when the episode with the answer comes out.

Rewards are for real listeners. If coins come from a mistake on our side, or from fake accounts, automation or other abuse, we may take them back and suspend the accounts involved. We can change or end a reward for the future at any time; coins you've already earned stay yours.

Comments and listening parties follow our Content Policy. We check comments with automated tools and people before others see them, blur spoilers, and remove what breaks the rules. You can report any comment, and hide anyone's comments from your app. There's no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive listeners: we act on reports within a day, removing the content and closing the accounts behind it.

Clips you make are for sharing with people, with the link we add. Please don't re-upload whole episodes or use clips to sell something.

If you delete your account, its coins and unlocks go with it, so spend them first. If we suspend an account for breaking these terms or the Terms of Use, its coins may be forfeited. If we ever close Chapterly FM, we'll give at least 60 days' notice and refund coins bought in the 90 days before.
